Salon Mix Vol. 4: Bread and Butter

This week's blog post is another Salon Mix that fits the season.

In the season of thanks I'm taking time to reflect on the clientele that keeps the lights on; those every four week root touch-ups and regularly scheduled maintenance trims. In the industry we call our most loyal clientele our “bread and butter”. Bread and Butter pays homage to them with a playlist of some of the greatest hits, the classics that everyone enjoys or at least makes them feel nostalgic. The “bread and butter” of music.

In this mix we have some tried and true hits, starting with a personal favorite in the song “Eyes without a face” by Billy idol. The first #1 hit in the US for the king of new wave, this 1983 track defined a large part of my childhood.

Other stand-outs are the swanky and silky jam “True” by Spandau Ballet. This is a 2003 remastered version of another 1983 new wave love ballad you’ve probably heard in one of your favorite films like 16 candles or 50 First dates; and “Easy Lover” by Philip Bailey and Phil Collins. A hard hitting, light rock banger bringing the powerhouses of Earth, Wind & Fire and Genesis together on one song that you know was THE song at any aerobics class in the mid 80’s.

Lastly, another favorite of mine from this mix is the hit by R&B legend Teena Marie in “Square Biz”. The ultimate get up and dance hit that is virtually impossible to not shake your body to.

Use this mix this holiday season to brighten up the mood. Bring down the house for those keeping the lights on. I mean, how can you go wrong with a little Bread and Butter?

What are some classic hits you think deserve a spot on this playlist? Would love to know what you think and how much you enjoyed this mix.
