Salon Mix Vol. 3 - BLOW OUT

This salon mix was originally scheduled for November, but with Halloween right around the corner this mix seemed more fitting for this holiday season.

I was raised on rock and metal, so this is a very exciting playlist for me. I tend to pick a lot more tame, easy-listening artists for a busy day at the shop so I don’t have to worry about the volume level and sometimes something more extreme can be a little overwhelming for clients.

Blow Out throws all of that out the window with a mix of hard, fast-paced, slugging, alternative and rock songs for those days when you need to go off.

This mix is meant for the stylist more than the client. Put this one on if you need some extra pep in between clients or after a long day. It’s the perfect playlist for those moments when your clients have to be out in 15 minutes, the next one is in the waiting room, and you've got every blow dryer in the shop roaring. This is Blow Out. Hard hitting, loud, explosive jams for when finishing that blow out is absolutely Do or Die.

Stand out tracks for me are Dazies by Yeule, a musical project from Nat Ćmiel, a songwriter and producer from Singapore with a sound that combines ambient rock with asian post-pop. Lovely, ghostly melodies strewn over a spacious, wailing guitar, with screaming robotic sound to finish it out.

Another track is See you Sacred by Philadelphia indie/alternative band Askysoblack. If you are searching for modern Deftones with a new, shiny finish, look no more. They bring back retro, angsty emotion without being too on-the-nose or obnoxious. They cite Smashing Pumpkins and At the Drive-thru as some of their inspiration, according to For The Punks.

A new personal favorite of mine featured in this playlist is Ghanian-Australian Punk Rock/Funk musician Genesis Owusu, with the song Stay Blessed. It's an almost eclectic sound mixing a fast, dirty punk track over some grimey lyrics broken up with hollow and bright background vocals for a song that grabs your attention from start to finish.

Is there ever a time when you need to just thrash in your salon space? Do you have days where you want to open the pit up? What are some of your go to songs on those days? Let me know if this salon mix ever helps you out in a pinch.
