Salon Mix Vol. 2: On the Run

Last month a client hired me for their wedding in Carmel-by-the-sea, which is about 5 hours away from my home in Los Angeles. I was incredibly honored to be asked to glam someone up for their big day.

For me, a road trip is an opportunity to disconnect and listen to music, and catch up on new releases that I haven't had time to listen to. I find a lot of pleasure in loading up the song queue and letting it play, discovering new music. My car also has an AMAZING sound system so the vibes are immaculate.

I had backlogged so much new music for this trip that I felt inspired to start making playlists to share in the first place. (P.S. if you missed Volume 1 of my playlist, you should check it out here. )

On the Run is a playlist made for those who, like me, travel a lot for work. If I'm not on a long trip, I often find myself traveling either to multiple private clients, or to and from the studio. I only live about a mile from the salon but you'd be surprised how long that takes to get there on any given day. The reality of everyday commuting can be a drag (especially here in LA), and this playlist is made to keep you amped up and energized for your next gig.

You will hear fast-paced, hyper pop anthems like the new single ‘Speed Drive’ by Charli XCX for the wonderful Barbie movie, and ‘Imagining’ by singer/songwriter Rina Sawayama. As well as some artists living outside traditional genres, such as “CTRL” by artist/songwriter/actor Mysie, or “God Send me here to rock you” by Naomi Elizabeth; an internet personality, sometimes considered “proto-slayyyter” with a strange, quirky, satirical pop/dance-esque song meant to, well, rock you. (If you need more clarification on what that even means feel free to reach out, and I'll try my best to explain.)

My favorites on this playlist are ‘Flicker’ by Donna Missal. A relentless, spacious club dance track with gorgeous vocals making you feel like you are running full-speed down the highway. As well as, “Air Force One” by ODD EYE CIRCLE. A subgroup of the (now defunct) kpop group LOONA, releasing a standout song that combines the best parts of kpop with a chorus that forces you to head bang.

In preparation for On the Run, I'm expecting you to grab your iced coffee, turn the music up loud, and go really, really fast (just kidding, you should absolutely drive the speed limit). This is a great mix to listen to on your booked and busy days in the salon or when you’re running errands on your days off.

I love music almost as much as I love hair, so I’ll be updating this playlist from time-to-time as I discover new songs to make you GO! If you like that kind of stuff, you can follow this playlist on my Spotify so you don’t miss out on the new-new. What kind of music do you love to play in your salon? I’d love to hear what you’re listening to right now or what you listen to on the run.
